With the initial successes of the Crisis of the World Eater Kickstarter (Already Over 200% Funded) we thought we’d take a look at the inspirations behind the mega-3pp Crossover-Adventure and its rather Fantastic Roots… Who better to fight off the coming of a world devouring cosmic monster than characters inspired by the originals… Presenting the Four Fantasical: Grim Ben!

The Four Fantastical – Grim Ben

As we consider the source material of brave cosmic adventures facing off against world-eating threats of Galactic proportions, the opposition of one group of four adventures has opposed and driven off the Hungerer time and time again…

So, to fill the ranks of the Four Fantasical, we poured over the extended body of the 3pp offerings to come up with our thick hided heavy, Grim Ben

The Concept: Grim Ben is the ridiculously strong, heavily armored heavy of the group. He pounds stuff with his fists, giving and taking beating nearly no one else could. While the system struggles to make Ben as strong as we might like him to be the results are still pretty fantastic. Iconic “Clobbering Time!” moments seem to indicate a burst in damage potention.

The Class: Aegis again, seeking to match Grim Ben’s persistent powers and rocky/artificial exterior, we need a class with very specific abilities. The Aegis has the strength, protection and resistances we need. It is also very easy to describe the exterior as being rocky.

Point Buy: Since the Four Fantastical are cosmic heroes we will go with a high fantasy budget of 20 points.

1st LevelAegis (Astral Juggernaut) 1 – Astral Repair, Form  Astral Suit, Customizations: Fortification, Hardy, Hardened Strikes, Brawn. Feats: Improved Unarmed StrikePsionic Fist [Psionic], Traits: Deft Dodger and Into Enemy Territory

Stats: STR 21 (17 with Brawn and Racial), Dex 11, CON 17 (15 base, +2 from Hardy), INT 8, WIS 13, CHA 8

At this level we have a relatively amazing Strength score for a first level character. Hardened fists that deal smallish 1d3+5 and 1d3+2d6+5 when we discharge our “clobbering.” Fortification gives a nice potential ignore criticals and sneak attack damage.

5th Level – Aegis (Astral Juggernaut) 5 – Astral Repair, Form  Astral Suit, Customizations: Fortification, Hardy, Hardened Strikes, Brawn 2, Stalwart, Evasion, Psionic Attacks, Retaliate, Spike Carapace, Improved Damage Reduction. Craftsman (+1 Craft – Woodworking), Damage Reduction 4/-, Invigorationing Suit, Reconfigure (0), Augment Suit. Feats: Improved Unarmed StrikePsionic Fist [Psionic], Master Craftsman,  Extra Customization [Psionic] x2. Traits: Deft Dodger and Into Enemy Territory, Item: (vest) cloak of resistance +2

Stats: STR 24 (17 with Brawn 2, Leveling and Racial), Dex 11, CON 17 (15 base, +2 from Hardy), INT 8, WIS 13, CHA 8

At this point, Grim Been still tends to rely on his hammering “Clobber” for maximum effect. He can however take an attack of opportunity when hit to get a little more fisticuff action going. With Stalwart and Evasion, he takes no damage on successful saves that allow lesser effects. His initial toughness is pretty amazing but the vest helps. A low intelligence deprives him of the Reconfigure power adding to the sensation that he is stuck in his current form.

10th Level –  Aegis (Astral Juggernaut) 10 – Astral Repair, Form  Astral Suit, Customizations: Fortification, Hardy, Hardened Strikes, Brawn 3, Stalwart, Evasion, Psionic Attacks, Retaliate, Spike Carapace, Improved Damage Reduction, Quicken Attack. Craftsman (+3 Craft – Woodworking), Damage Reduction 4/-, Invigorationing Suit, Reconfigure (0), Augment Suit (2). Feats: Improved Unarmed StrikePsionic Fist [Psionic], Master CraftsmanExtra Customization [Psionic] x2, Greater Psionic Fist [Psionic]Psionic Meditation [Psionic] Traits: Deft Dodger and Into Enemy Territory,  Item: (vest) cloak of resistance +3

Stats: STR 29 (17 with Brawn 3, Leveling, Size and Racial), Dex 9, CON 17 (15 base, +2 from Hardy), INT 8, WIS 13, CHA 8

Grim Ben is now large and possessing a Strength score some dragons would envy. Our Clobber is up to 1d4+4d6+9, or we can fisticuff for 3 attacks with retaliate for a possible 4rh.  He can recharge his psionic fist faster (with a wind-up) and for more times a’ clobberin’…

15th Level –  Aegis (Astral Juggernaut) 15 – Astral Repair, Form  Astral Suit, Customizations: Fortification, Hardy, Hardened Strikes, Brawn 4, Stalwart, Evasion, Psionic Attacks, Psionic Damage, Retaliate, Spike Carapace, Improved Damage Reduction, Quicken Attack, Improved Evasion, Ranged Attack, Power Resistance 13. Craftsman (+4 Craft – Woodworking), Damage Reduction 7/-, Invigorationing Suit, Reconfigure (0), Augment Suit (2). Feats: Improved Unarmed StrikePsionic Fist [Psionic], Master CraftsmanExtra Customization [Psionic] x4, Greater Psionic Fist [Psionic]Psionic Meditation [Psionic]Mental Leap [Psionic]Traits: Deft Dodger and Into Enemy Territory,  Item: (vest) cloak of resistance +3

Stats: STR 30 (17 with Brawn 3, Leveling, Size and Racial), Dex 9, CON 17 (15 base, +2 from Hardy), INT 8, WIS 13, CHA 8

Grim Ben is now delivering 4 solid hits most of the time, taking half or no damage from Reflex saves and no damage or effect on his successful Fortitude and Will. He can make small super-leaps with Mental Leap and has sizeable DR….

To 20th level and Mythic: Ben advances primary abilities and adds Improved Stalwart. If going Mythic he probably is a Champion but a Dual Path into Godhunter wouldn’t be too surprising.

We hope you enjoyed the second of the Four Fantasitcal!
